A man admitted to hospital with stab wounds had to have an emergency procedure to alleviate the pressure caused by a punctured lung which had filled with blood and air, the court heard this morning.

Testifying in the compilation of evidence against Charmaine Ellul, who stands accused of the attempted murder of her husband Jason after an argument at their house last November, Dr Mary Rose Cassar recounted how Mr Ellul had arrived at Mater Dei suffering from several wounds, including superficial ones.

She said that one of two stab wounds in his back had punctured his lung and she had to perform the emergency procedure before he was operated upon.

The case continues.
