Dingli Swallows 1
St George's 0

\n

A Conrad Zammit goal saw Dingli chalking up their first victory of the season at the expense of leaders St George's who surprisingly succumbed to their first league upset.

St George's dictated matters throughout the first half but Dingli held tight with goalkeeper Abela saving well off a low Nazzareno Abela drive. Dingli were a different lot after the break and took the lead in the 53rd minute when Zammit concluded some fine work between Darren Attard and Aldrin Muscat.

The Saints' reaction was immediate but found Abela in fine form, keeping away efforts from Johan Spiteri, Edgar Degabriele and Heathcliffe Schembri to preserve his side's lead.

Attard 2
Zejtun Corinthians 1

Zejtun are still without a win after four outings but Attard moved into a mid-table position thanks to the three points won, their goals coming in the opening half.

Zejtun had a good start and in the opening phase they went close on three occasions through James Galea. But, gradually Attard came more into the picture and broke the deadlock through a Chris Ciappara first-timer in the 42nd minute.

Zejtun were stunned and just before the break they conceded another goal when Marco Sultana made it 2-0 from a Josef Axisa cross.

Three minutes after the restart, Zejtun lost goalkeeper Mula but in the 56th minute Attard were reduced to ten players when Sandro Borg was sent off for dissent.

Zejtun, however, failed to profit and only reduced the arrears two minutes from time through James Galea.

Mellieha 0
Zebbug Rangers 0

This was a highly-charged match with little play and plenty of tough challenges. Not surprisingly the contest ended in a goalless stalemate. Mellieha and Zebbug Rangers preserved their unbeaten record after four matches.

Mellieha had Kevin Gambin and Wayne Borg St John very active up front but Zebbug's rearguard repelled all their opponents' forays.

The northerners were the busier side in attack and on two occasions Rangers' goalkeeper Pace had to be alert to deny Borg St John. Deep into stoppage time, Pace effected a fine save on Gambin.

Gzira United 1
Gozo FC 0

Veteran Ian Buhagiar again proved to be an asset for Gzira as he made a second-half showing and scored the winning goal, handing Gozo their first upset of the season.

After 12 minutes a Chris Camilleri header for Gozo just missed the target. Then, Camilleri again tried his luck but Bonello was on the right spot to save. The Gozitans were doing most of the running but the best chance was created by Gzira just before the break when Kevin Naudi saw his volley saved with difficulty by Jonathan Xuereb.

Gzira played better after the break but had to wait until the very last minute to find the opponents' net when Buhagiar headed home from a Julian Spiteri long throw-in.

Division Three

Gharghur joint leaders

Gudja United 0
Gharghur 2

Goals from Kris Vella Petroni and Jeremy Dalli were enough for Gharghur to obtain a second consecutive victory and join Birzebbuga at the top of the standings.

Gharghur had a fine opening but it was Gudja who found the net first only for their 'goal' to be disallowed for offside.

Vella Petroni put Gharghur ahead after 21 minutes with an excellent drive. Gudja had their chances but deep into stoppage time Dalli made sure of the points after hitting home a Vella Petroni cross.

Fgura United 2
Siggiewi 0

Fgura recovered from their setback against Kirkop as they scored twice without reply against Siggiewi.

Siggiewi started better but midway through the opening half Fgura took the lead through Paul Fenech following a pass by Elvin Gauci.

There was a strong reaction from Siggiewi but Pierre Spiteri was denied by the Fgura woodwork.

In the 69th minute, Gauci made it 2-0 after a fine solo move.

Referee: Glen Tonna.

Melita AFC 0
Sta Venera Lightnings 0

This clash between two promotion contenders ended all-square with the Amateurs dominating the first half but the Lightnings enjoying the upperhand after the break.

Antoine Briffa and David Busuttil had good chances for Melita early on and just before the interval Melita were again close but Simon Mifsud Bonnici's shot was cleared in time by the Saints' rearguard.

Sta Venera dictated the run of play after the interval, Jeffrey Zammit, Stephen Said and Josef Taliana very close to the target. Melita's reply produced a shot from close in by Matthew Borg which was saved by Rapinett.

Referee: Malcolm Mercieca.

Pembroke Athleta 2
Kirkop United 0

This was a deserved victory for Albert Cristiano's Pembroke. Carlo Leonardi hit both goals in the first half as Kirkop badly disappointed their followers with a poor display.

Pembroke were undoubtedly the better team but Alistair Camilleri and Tyrone Bonnici could have opened the score for Kirkop in the opening stages.

On 26 minutes, Pembroke forged ahead when Leonardi scored from a corner. Ten minutes later and Pembroke had another corner in favour. The kick was taken by Gauci and the ball fell to Leonardi again who made it 2-0 without difficulty.

Near the end of the match, Kirkop were denied by Grima Baldacchino off a strong shot by Tonio Caruana.

Referee: William Debattista.
