The spring hunting referendum cost €4,631,688, chief electoral commissioner Joseph Church said.

In a statement to the Finance Minister, tabled in Parliament today, Mr Church said this excluded the €1,349,538 paid to Air Malta in respect of voters who returned to Malta to vote in the referendum.

The €4.6 million expenses were made up of the following:

• Renumeration to electoral office employees - €244,016;

• Renumeration to assistant commissioners, etc - €953,545;

• Renumeration to temporary personnel - €1,628,663;

• Utilities, operating materials and supplies, repairs - €194,784;

• Office services - €441,263;

• Local transport - €387,722;

• Information services - €46,801; and

• Contractual services, property improvement, hospitality and equipment - €734,894.
