Trezeguet: Juventus striker David Trezeguet will miss next week's Champions League clash with Real Madrid after being sidelined by flu, the Serie A club said yesterday. The French international, who missed Saturday's 0-0 draw with Messina, was left out of Juventus's 20-man squad for the match. Better news for Juventus's supporters, however, was the inclusion of Pavel Nedved, who has not played a competitive match since injuring his knee in a Serie A game against Brescia on January 23.

Nowotny: Bayer Leverkusen captain Jens Nowotny has been ruled out of tomorrow's Champions League game away to Liverpool because of a potentially serious knee injury. Nowotny, who has had to battle with ligament problems in his left knee in the past, suffered the injury in his side's 4-2 win over FC Nuremberg on Saturday. "It's not certain but it's possible that it's a cruciate ligament injury," said Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voeller.

Ramzy: Former Egypt captain Hany Ramzy will start work on obtaining a coaching badge today after accepting he will not play again this season for his German club FC Kaiserslautern. The 35-year-old Ramzy, who has been out action since suffering knee ligament damage in August 2003, has not ruled out making a comeback but will not be able to return before his Kaiserslautern contract expires at the end of the season. Ramzy made 124 appearances for Egypt and has played 228 times for Kaiserslautern since joining the Bundesliga club in 1998.

Wilmots: St Truiden sacked coach Marc Wilmots yesterday following a string of disappointing results this season. The former Belgium international has been replaced on an interim basis by the Belgian first division club's sports director Guy Manchelschots. In a statement, St Truiden said they would be looking for a more permanent "coaching solution for the rest of the championship". St Truiden are 14th in the 18-team standings, with five wins in 22 games. Wilmots, who earned 70 caps for Belgium and played in three World Cups, was appointed manager at St Truiden last April.
