Bundesliga: Bayer Leverkusen stayed in the hunt for a spot in Europe with a 2-1 win at home to outgoing Bundesliga champions Werder Bremen yesterday. Leverkusen took a 2-0 lead with goals from Jacek Krzynowek and Marko Babic and held off a determined fight-back after Miroslav Klose had reduced the arrears. Victory kept Leverkusen in seventh place, within a point of fifth-placed Werder in the final UEFA Cup qualification slot. Other result - Nuremberg vs B. M'gladbach 0-0.

Wenger: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger may feel a tinge of regret when he watches Paul Robinson keeping goal for rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby today. The 25-year-old Robinson was linked with a move to Highbury in 2003 but Wenger decided he was not mature enough to sign him and the goalkeeper left Leeds United for Spurs last year. "Paul Robinson has improved a lot as a goalkeeper. He looks much more mature now and much more settled," Wenger said. "He seems very determined in his approach to the game. He was a player that we looked at in the past and considered, but at the time I did not think he was ready."

Stam: Milan defender Jaap Stam is struggling to be fit for tomorrow's Champions League semi-final, first-leg against PSV. The former Manchester United defender picked up a right thigh injury during Milan's 3-0 win over Parma on Saturday and had to be substituted. Stam's absence would be a major setback for Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti who is already without Alessandro Nesta who is suspended.

Soccer Violence: Ten people were reported injured in a violent Belgrade derby between Serbia champions Red Star and league leaders Partizan after rival fans clashed with each other and police on Saturday. The game ended in a 1-1 draw and kept Partizan five points ahead of their bitter rivals in a two-horse title race with six matches remaining.
