Glazer: US tycoon Malcolm Glazer plans to delist Manchester United as early as June 22 as part of his £790 million takeover, his bankers said yesterday. In a statement, investment bank Rothschild said Glazer planned to apply to the UK's listing authority to cancel Manchester United Plc's listing from the London Stock Exchange, on June 22 "or as soon thereafter as is practicable".

Mallorca: Real Mallorca coach Hector Cuper told his side not to get carried away after a 3-0 win at Deportivo lifted them out of the Primera Liga relegation zone for the first time in eight months. If the islanders win their final game at home to Real Betis they will remain in the top flight at the expense of Levante. "It was a great win and we've now got a much better chance of staying up," said Cuper. "But we've still got one last final left to play against Betis. We've got to leave the euphoria to one side now, concentrate on the job and stay calm."

Arsenal: England defender Ashley Cole looks set to stay with Arsenal after vice-chairman David Dein said no player would be leaving the FA Cup winners. "No one will be leaving the club," Dein said. "We will be looking at strengthening the squad with maybe two or three new players coming in. Dennis Bergkamp will be signing a new one-year contract." Despite Dein's comment, a club spokeswoman said Brazilian midfielder Edu would still be departing.

Celtic fans wait: Martin O'Neill's five-year stint in charge of Celtic could end this week after growing speculation he will stand down for personal reasons. O'Neill's wife Geraldine is ill and weekend reports in Scotland said the Northern Irishman would quit to look after her, with Gordon Strachan taking over at Celtic. Asked about the reports after losing the league title in the last two minutes on Sunday, O'Neill would only say: "I will not comment at all on my future today."

In Belgium: Standard Liege and Racing Genk will have to play off for a UEFA Cup spot after a dramatic finale last weekend. The two sides finished level on 70 points after the 34th and final round of matches in the championship. Liege were on track to secure the UEFA place when they went 1-0 up in the first half at relegated Oostende but their hosts equalised before the break. Liege had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Genk came back from 1-0 down with 20 minutes remaining to beat Cercle Bruges 3-1, ending the season level with Liege after 21 wins and seven draws.

Porto: Portuguese Jose Couceiro resigned as coach of European champions Porto after his team failed to retain the Portuguese Premier League title on Sunday. Porto drew 1-1 at home with Academica in the final round of the Portuguese championship, finishing second in the standings behind champions Benfica. No replacement has yet been named but Portuguese media reported that AZ Alkmaar's Co Adriaanse has agreed a two-year contract with Porto starting next season.

¤ Harry Redknapp will stay on as manager of Southampton and lead their campaign for promotion back to the Premier League next season, the club said yesterday. Redknapp, who made a highly controversial move from south coast rivals Portsmouth last December, just failed to steer them away from relegation after losing at home to Manchester United in a dramatic final day of the season. "I'm looking forward to the challenge," Redknapp said. "Having walked out on that pitch at the end of the last game against Man United when we got relegated and got the reception from the crowd, there was no way I felt I could walk away."
