Bruges: Club Bruges have appointed former striker Jan Ceulemans as coach, the Belgian champions announced on their official website on Saturday. Ceulemans, Belgium's most-capped player with 96 international appearances, signed a three-year contract with Bruges after quitting as coach of first division rivals Westerlo. The 48-year-old Ceulemans succeeds Norwegian Trond Sollied, who left Bruges for Greek side Olympiakos Piraeus.

Yanal Sacked: Turkey coach Ersun Yanal has been sacked following a run of disappointing results in World Cup qualifying. Yanal signed a four-year deal in April 2004 and it was hoped he would revive Turkey's fortunes after they failed to qualify for Euro 2004. But the team are second in World Cup Group Two, seven points adrift of runaway leaders Ukraine.

Diarra: France international midfielder Alou Diarra has joined Racing Lens from Liverpool on a four-year contract. Diarra, 23, spent last season on loan at Lens who have now taken up the option of signing him for three million euros. Diarra joined Liverpool in 2002 but never played for the English club, spending a season on loan at Le Havre and Bastia before moving to Lens.

Zagorakis: Greece captain Theodoros Zagorakis is poised to return home in the next few days when his move from Italian club Bologna to PAOK Salonika is finalised. The 34-year-old midfielder, who began his career with PAOK, has agreed a two-year contract worth €400,000 a year.

Torino Promoted: Serie B promotion play-off final second leg - Torino 0 Perugia 1 (Mascara 21) - after 90 mins 0-1; aet 0-1; aggregate 2-2. Torino promoted to Serie A as they finished above Perugia in the regular Serie B standings. They join Genoa and Empoli who were also promoted to Serie A.
