Juve board: Juventus, whose entire board quit last week, called directors to meet again on Friday and said the head of its majority shareholder would take a key role. In a statement, the Serie A club said Carlo Sant'Albano, chief executive officer of Ifil, would take on "specific management powers" at the board meeting. Ifil is the holding company of the Agnelli family and has a 62 per cent stake in Juventus.

Rangers: Rangers have signed Czech midfielder Libor Sionko for three years on a free transfer from Austria Vienna. The 29-year-old agreed the contract following a successful medical yesterday and became the first big signing under new manager Paul Le Guen.

Lahm injured: World Cup hosts Germany suffered a potentially crippling blow to their defence yesterday when Philipp Lahm injured his elbow in a practice game against amateur club Luckenwalde. The Bayern Munich defender was taken to hospital after falling hard on his arm. Juergen Klinsmann spent much of the second half of the game, which Germany won 7-0, with Lahm in the dressing room.

Tevez: Argentina forward Carlos Tevez has said that Chelsea are interested in signing him. "Chelsea have the intention of taking me," Tevez, who plays for Brazilian champions Corinthians, said. "There's a reason they came to watch me." Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho watched Corinthians lose 3-1 at home to Argentina's River Plate in a South American Libertadores Cup match two weeks ago.

Platini: Michel Platini has denied that he would scrap the Champions League if he is elected UEFA president next year. Platini said he had changed his mind on European club competition reforms. The three-times winner of the European Footballer of the Year award had previously advocated an end to a league format and a return to a purely knock-out competition for Europe's premier club tournament, but with 256 teams.

England '66 Shirt: The shirt worn by right full-back George Cohen during England's 4-2 defeat of Germany in the 1966 World Cup final and swapped with Lothar Emmerich after the match goes on sale next month at the height of the 2006 tournament. The red no.2 shirt, which has been kept by Emmerich's family for 40 years, is set to fetch up to £20,000 when it goes on sale at Christie's in London on June 27. Capped 37 times for England - including all six of the team's 1966 finals matches - Cohen was once described by the legendary George Best as "the best full-back I ever played against". Cohen spent his entire playing career with Fulham.
