Italy's Franco Pellizotti won the 190-km 10th stage of the Giro d'Italia from Termoli to Peschici yesterday.

The Liquigas rider beat Russia's Vladimir Efimkin and Kazakhstan's Serguei Yakovlev in a sprint on the short uphill finish.

Italy's Ivan Basso of the CSC team finished in the main peloton but retained the overall race lead. The Giro transfers to Tuscany today for the second rest day of the race. Competition resumes tomorrow with a 50km individual time trial around Pontedera.

The Giro d'Italia ends in Milan on May 28.
