Woodgate: Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate is unsure whether Real Madrid will want him back when his one-year loan spell in the Premier League ends. The centre back returned to his hometown club in August after being plagued by injuries in his two-year spell with the nine-times European champions. The English side have an option to turn the loan move into a permanent one. "At the end of the season we'll have to wait and see. I am extremely happy here and I don't know if Real want me to return. My future isn't in my hands," he said.

Curbishley: Former Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley said he will talk to West Ham United's new owner Eggert Magnusson in the next few days to discuss the managerial vacancy at Upton Park. Curbishley has emerged as favourite to succeed Alan Pardew who was sacked on Monday after five defeats in six league games which left the club third from bottom of the Premier League. "I'd love to know what they want to say - of course I'm interested," Curbishley said. "I suspect we will get together over the next day or so when the dust has settled."

Adu: Freddy Adu has been traded from DC United to Real Salt Lake. Ghana-born Adu, 17, was sent to Real Salt Lake for reserve goalkeeper Jay Nolly and the right to sign a major player. Adu scored 11 goals in 87 regular season appearances with United and in 2004, his rookie year, played a big part in helping United with the MLS Cup.

Scholl: Bayern Munich midfielder Mehmet Scholl, who has been at the club since 1992, will retire in 2007, manager Uli Hoeness said. "We'll give him a big farewell match - against Barcelona," Hoeness told Bild newspaper. He added former Germany international Scholl, 36, would work with Bayern's youth team after his playing career ended.

Everton: Everton hope to sign Brazilian midfielder Anderson da Silva within weeks according to club chairman Bill Kenwright. Kenwright said Everton had invested £700,000 last year to acquire Da Silva's "federative and economic rights" in an arrangement with Uruguayan club National Montevideo.
