Kluivert: English second division side Sheffield Wednesday said they have received a positive response from Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert after offering the former Milan, Barcelona and Ajax player a trial at Hillsborough. Kluivert, 31, was with PSV Eindhoven last season but was not offered a new deal. "There is a possibility it could go ahead," Wednesday manager Brian Laws told the club's website. Kluivert previously played in England with Newcastle United during the 2004-05 season.

Catania: Italian club Catania have cancelled their pre-season tour of Japan after an earthquake last week triggered radiation leaks, organisers said yesterday. The club had been scheduled to play matches against three J-League sides next week. Radioactive leaks at a major nuclear power plant followed the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in the northwestern city of Kashiwazaki.
