The promotion of mental health and social and emotional learning in schools is the theme of the second edition of the International Journal of Emotional Education (IJEE) that has just been published.

It features five papers dealing with these issues in the diverse international contexts of Malta, the UK, Australia and Japan.

'Tackling cyberbullying: A cross-cultural comparison' is the title of one paper by Helen Cowie of Surrey University, UK, while Neil Humphrey and his colleagues at the University of Manchester write about 'Primary social and emotional aspects of learning (SEAL) small group interventions'. Dr Humphrey also co-ordinates a books review section in this edition.

Another UK paper is 'Teaching assistants and pupils' academic and social engagement in mainstream schools: insights from systematic literature reviews' by Wasyl Cajkler from the University of Leicester and Geoff Tennant from the University of Reading.

Felicienne Mallia Borg from Malta's Education Directorates wrote a paper on 'Schools as contexts for the development of social and emotional learning', while Helen Askell-Williams and her colleagues at Flinders University, Australia, wrote on 'Venturing into schools: Locating mental health initiatives in complex environments'.

IJEE is a biennial, peer-reviewed, international, electronic journal of the European Centre for Educational Resilience and Socio-Emotional Health at the University of Malta. It is edited by Paul Cooper and Carmel Cefai and distributed free of charge.
