A pilot safely made an emergency landing of his single-engine experimental aircraft along Chicago's Lake Shore Drive as early morning joggers did double takes.

John Pedersen attempted the landing after noticing a problem with the plane as he passed Chicago's Willis Tower.

Pedersen says he timed the landing to a red light on the drive's northbound lanes when fewer cars were on the roadway.

Two cars were struck by the plane but fled the scene. The pilot was not injured.
