Ten refugees will be transferred to Slovenia as part of an EU project aimed at easing Malta's immigration burden.

The country is one of six EU member states that backed the European Commission's pilot resettlement project. Slovenian Home Minister Katarina Kresal said the project was "about expressing solidarity with an EU member state which has been under pressure due to a massive influx of refugees".

The Home Affairs Ministry praised the country for its announcement and said this was another concrete step which should be copied by other countries.

The ministry also thanked the US for yet again accepting another 52 refugees earlier this week.
