FLORIANA-3, ST ANDREW'S-2

Floriana made it three wins in a row after beating newly-promoted St Andrew's 3-2.

The Greens looked to be heading for an easy win after taking a three-goal first-half lead but their casual approach in the second half brought St Andrew's back into the game as Wayne Attard's produced a reaction to pull back two goals.

The first half belonged to Floriana.

Emmanuel Briffa was first to threaten as his long-range screamer, after just two minutes, hit the crossbar.

St Andrew's goalkeeper Kris Calleja then saved Simon Ezeadi's cross-shot but, on 16 minutes, Floriana opened the scoring thanks to defender Andrea Scozzese whose stunning free-kick sailed into the top corner.

The Greens continued to dominate.

Matteo Piciollo's grounder was deflected onto the side-netting and, from the ensuing corner, taken by Nicolas Chiesa, Scozzese headed wide.

Florian doubled their lead in the 31st minute. Retrieving possession on the left, Piciollo swept into the box before hitting a low shot past Calleja.

At the other end, St Andrew's striker Chris De Nguidjol nipped past Steve Bonnici as the latter tried to shepherd the ball for the on-rushing Calleja Cremona but the Italian's effort was block by the Floriana goalkeeper.

The Greens increased their advantage thanks to Chiesa whose swerving shot from inside the box gave Calleja no chance seven minutes from half-time.

Three goals down, St Andrew's were facing a humiliating defeat. To their credit, they improved as Floriana grew complacent.

Joseph Farrugia's inswinging cross from a corner was fisted away by Calleja Cremona.

Johnson then headed over from Williams's corner as the Saints upped their game.

Johnson headed high from Farrugia's corner but, 14 minutes from time, substitute Kyrian Nwoko beat Calleja Cremona with a powerful header from Williams's corner.

St Andrew's were back in the game three minutes from the end when Calleja Cremona tried to dribble De Nguidjol who dispossessed the Floriana goalkeeper and drove the ball into an empty net.

Piciollo, the Floriana striker, was named BOV player of the match.
