NAXXAR LIONS 0 TARXIEN RAINBOWS 5

Tarxien Rainbows got back on the winning trail when they saw off Naxxar Lions as comfortably as the 5-0 scoreline suggests.

The Rainbows had to endure Naxxar’s forceful take-off. Andrea Cassar, in goal had to stretch himself to stop efforts from Sidoine Oussou and Armando Tarlazis. However, in between these episodes, Tarxien went ahead and deservedly so.

Danilo was judged to have been illegally held outside the penalty area. The free-kick by Joao Pedro Oliveira took everyone by surprise, including Naxxar goalkeeper Julian Azzopardi, as the ball ended at the back of the net.

Naxxar were taken aback and Lucky Omeruo set free on a vertical, hit a low drive behind Azzopardi to double the lead after 24 minutes.

Two minutes later their hopes of recovery dipped when David Fenech was sent off for dissent.

The Rainbows were the complete masters by now and Caruana rammed that fact home when hitting his side's third goal just before half-time.

Naxxar faced a make-or-break scenario after the interval and their coach Stefano Grima must have drummed this fact down his players' heads during the interval. But Tarxien’s superior briskness and more penetrative qualities were giving Naxxar a harrowing time.

Tarxien’s fourth goal arrived after 67 minutes. Substitute Roderick Bajada stole possession in midfield to start the move which gave Tarxien an assailable lead. His perfect service to Danilo was finished off by the Brazilian striker.

Three minutes from time, Omeruo headed onto the bar after receiving from Azzopardi but at death, Montebello slipped in number five behind the over-worked Naxxar goalkeeper.
