A Carnival Football Tournament for boys' teams in the U-11, U-12 and U-13 categories is again being staged by the Sliema Wanderers FC nursery between February 21 and 24.

In all, 24 teams from various established local nurseries will be taking part with a total participation of 368 boys. Fifty-four matches will be played on the artificial turf pitch at St Aloysius Sports Complex.

Last year, the Sliema nursery was marking its 20th anniversary since its foundation. The organisation for young players at the Wanderers, still waiting for its facilities to be completed at Tignè, was launched by the late Guzi Fava and ably maintained by its current chairman Victor Scerri.

The Sliema nursery has been a success story throughout, also judging by the several young footballers produced now playing with various teams in the local top divisions.

U-11 (nine-a-side): Floriana, Hamrun, Melita, Mosta, Pietà, Sliema, St Andrews and St Patrick.

U-12 (nine-a-side): Hamrun, Melita, Mosta, Naxxar, Hibs, Sliema W. Blues, Sliema W. Yellows and Zebbug.

U-13 (11-a-side): Birkirkara, Melita, Mosta, Pietà, San Gwann, Sliema, St Andrews and St Patrick.

Floriana Easter competition

Between April 5 and 12, the Floriana FC Youth Nursery will be holding their first edition of the Easter International Tournament at the Independence Arena.

The tournament, sponsored by Coca Cola, will be open for U-7, U-8, U-9, U-10, U-11 and U-13 categories. Foreign teams are expected to figure in one of the competitions. Local nurseries that would like to take part may obtain more details by writing to Floriana FC Nursery secretary J. Muscat.
