As a Sliema local councillor, I would like to concur with what Msida councillor Joe Demarco wrote in his letter Delayed Parking Scheme (March 4).

In Sliema we are having a similar experience. After having agreed with the ADT and GRTU on the details for a parking scheme and were about to place an order for traffic signs, we were informed by the ADT that we would have to wait for this information to be published in the government gazette before it becomes legal. This last notification was in November and to date I still have no reply even though I call up the ADT on a regular basis.

The Sliema council has been meeting with ADT and GRTU officials for several years trying to come up with an agreed system. But after lots of hard work we have still not achieved anything concrete. The Sliema residents are desperate for us to take a stand on the parking situation as parking is becoming worse and worse here by the day.

I appeal for our residents to be given the parking rights they deserve, as given to other councils.
