We all think long and hard about what to give people for Christmas. We try our best to be thoughtful and give them something they'll really appreciate. There are, however, a certain group of people who are an absolute nightmare to buy for; they are the ones who have everything!

We all know somebody who, when we ask them what they would like, shrugs their shoulders and say nothing really, they have everything! This really doesn't help us at all. The key is to buy them something that they wouldn't buy themselves. Here are some ideas to help you in your quest to get the perfect gift for this difficult person.

A personalised gift is always well received as it looks like you have put a lot of thought into it. What kind of person are they? If they do a lot of writing or correspondence, a good quality, personalised pen will go down well. If they work in an office, a paperweight always comes in handy. If they enjoy drinking wine, a special bottle with a personalised label is a good idea.

If you are good at arts and crafts, and they have greatly admired something you have made, make them one for themselves. Make sure it's unique to them though, and is different from yours so that they don't think you have just given them the one that you had at home. If you are an accomplished artist, paint them a special picture, of a scene or person that you know is special to them.

Everyone loves to have an original work of art. This also works well if you are a good photographer; take a special picture and put it into an attractive frame.

If they collect anything, look for items for their collection that you know they don't have. Certain collectibles have limited edition items out at Christmas so you know this will be much appreciated.

If they have a hobby, such as going to the theatre or art galleries, get them tickets to a certain performance or display that you know they would enjoy. You may have to tell them about these in advance though, but they will still be grateful.

Vouchers seem like a cop out to lots of people, but the person who has everything will be grateful that you are giving them the opportunity to choose something special for themselves. Get the voucher from a good store, so they will have plenty of choice. Vouchers for specialist stores are very restrictive, so stick to general ones.

A small, luxury item will be gratefully received. These are things such as a special soap or chocolate, that they won't buy themselves, but don't want to ask for in case they seem greedy.

Stick to these general guidelines, and the person who has everything won't be so difficult to buy for after all.
