Roma president Rosella Sensi has claimed that unsettled captain Francesco Totti is still at the heart of the club's project.

Totti voiced his displeasure this week after seeing his playing time substantially decrease with the Giallorossi this season.

Sensi said: "Of all the players that have had the honour to wear the Roma jersey, Totti is the number one.

"More than anyone else, he has been placed at the centre of our project in view of the future.

"I say to my captain that even if the Sensi family leaves Roma, he must think of the duty that together we undertook for our fans and our city."

Roma are still looking for a buyer after the Sensi family decided to put the club up for sale last year.

Totti had a meeting with club sporting director Daniele Prade and coach Claudio Ranieri in the aftermath of Sunday's 2-1 defeat at Sampdoria.

The 34-year-old was fuming after coming in as a late substitute.

Totti said: "I was slightly disappointed to enter the game four minutes before the end.

"But I accept this, I accept the bench, I accept everything.

"I am sad because this club should point to the maximum."

When asked about his future at the club, Totti said: "We must think about the present and then we will see."

Totti has scored twice in 15 league appearances for Roma this season.

The Romans lie fourth in Serie A heading into Sunday's game at Cesena.
