The Point shopping mall has attracted many Maltese and tourists. The owners and management did their best to inaugurate it on time and were successful.

The majority of shops are fully functional with the exception of the eatery section which is still in progress. However, perhaps in order to meet the tight deadlines, the centre was opened without surveillance cameras - a necessary security feature in such highly frequented places.

My daughter was shopping there and, in a split second, her mobile phone went missing. She immediately notified the security personnel and asked them to check the closed circuit television system to see if the culprit had been caught on camera. To my amazement and astonishment, the security guard on duty told me that they were not yet functional!

I fail to understand how an investment of such high calibre could open for business without the bare necessities. I consider a surveillance system in a shopping centre a minimum requirement. Hopefully, the management of The Point will get cracking and decide to activate their surveillance system and avoid further thefts and inconvenience to us shoppers.
