Civil Protection Department volunteers searched in the rubble at the Hal Ferh tourist resort in Ghajn Tuffieha in a disaster simulation exercise, one of many being held this weekend as part of a three-day training camp.

The 30 volunteers, known as Spiders, are simulating a number of emergency scenarios, particularly, that of collapsed buildings.

The aim of the camp is to put into practice competences acquired in training courses on disaster assistance and response, with special emphasis to urban search and rescue, funded by the European Union.

As part of this training, the team also set up a reception/accommodation facility for members to live at the scene of the accident for the three days of the camp.

This setup is also simulating a live disaster scenario, where accommodation facilities are usually scarce.

This training will enhance the capabilities of the Civil Protection Department to respond to various emergency situations.
