Between January and the end of September last year there were 31 schoolgirl pregnancies, between the ages of 14 and 16.

Answering a parliamentary question by Anthony Agius Decelis (PL), Health Minister Joseph Cassar said there five such pregnancies were in the north, three in the west, eight in the north harbour, 11 in the south harbour and four in the southeast regions. There were no schoolgirl pregnancies in Gozo.

The Department of Health did not have information on which schools the girls attended.

Answering another question by Mr Agius Decelis, the minister said that 3,272 babies were born between January and the end of October 2010. Of these, 2,966 were born to Maltese women.
