Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes could return from injury to play some part in today's League Cup quarter-final at home to Blackburn Rovers, manager Alex Ferguson told the club website (www.manutd.com).

"I have Paul Scholes in mind. He is training well and is chomping at the bit to get started. So a place on the bench with perhaps a few minutes' pitch time could be good for him."

The 34-year-old damaged knee ligaments in United's 3-0 Champions League win against AaB Aalborg in September and was expected to be sidelined until the middle of December.
