A festa celebrating the Maltese identity will be held at San Anton Palace and Gardens next month to raise funds for the Community Chest Fund.

Festa f’Sant Anton will help the Malta Community Chest Fund keep up with its commitments, with some €200,000 needed every month, President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca said.

She said the event would be about “everything that is Maltese.”

Held between 6pm and 11pm on July 11 and 12, the event will take place at the palace, its surrounding gardens including the President’s private garden, and the Kitchen Garden.

There will be re-enactments in the Palace rooms, exhibitions and a traditional games corner including noli, bocci and passju.

The feast will include fireworks, but no statues.

“People are being invited to relax in a healthy environment surrounded with greenery. At the same time the presidency is committed to raise awareness about Malta’s heritage,” Ms Coleiro Preca said, adding the event would also be a showcase of the island’s culture to other nationalities residing here.

The participants will include a folk band, folk musicians, ghannejja and singers. There will be an admission fee of €5.

Those accompanied by their children will pay the reduced fee of €4.

Children are being asked to come up with drawings depicting the Maltese identity that will be exhibited throughout the event.
