Sweethearts looking to make the most out of Ryanair's Christmas promotion are in for a disappointment as the €1 air fare won't be available between February 12 and 23.

Following reports to The Times by prospective travellers that bookings made in mid-February carried regular fares, Ryanair spokesman Alessia Viviani confirmed that the promotion would not apply on flights falling between February 12 and 23 because that period coincided with Valentine's Day.

The Irish airline launched its Christmas promotion on Tuesday.

The airline said it will be offering a million seats for prices starting from €1 for flights between January 6 and February 28.

The seats are to be booked between midnight last Tuesday and midnight on December 21.

Prices will increase by a euro a day until it reaches €12 on December 21.

The price covers a one-way trip and includes taxes and charges.
