Archbishop Paul Cremona yesterday appointed Fr Charles Tabone as his delegate on the Secretariat for Social Communication.

The appointment comes into effect in February.

Mgr Cremona also appointed Franco Azzopardi as chairman of the Curia's media centre and Radio RTK.

This follows the publication of a 51-page document, titled The Digital Face Of The Lord, which made the case for the drafting of a programme to implement the proposals of the Synod with regard to the media.

The document proposed that the secretariat be set up as an organisation within the Archdiocese and, among others, be responsible for drawing up, updating and implementing the Church's strategy to broadcast the Word through the mass media. It would also establish the editorial policy of the Church's media and ensure this was practised in a uniform way.
