Nico Rosberg has warned his Formula One rivals there is more to come from Mercedes after the German secured his second successive podium at the Chinese Grand Prix today.

The 24-year-old followed up his third place in Malaysia two weeks ago with the same result in Shanghai, which leaves him second in the drivers' championship with 50 points, 10 behind McLaren's Jenson Button.

Rosberg had started fourth on the grid but moved to the front on lap three where he stayed for 16 laps before he was passed by Button having slid off the track after switching to intermediates to combat the tricky wet conditions.

He was eventually passed by Button's team-mate Lewis Hamilton but Rosberg was nevertheless thrilled with the result.

"It's fantastic to be on the podium for the second race in succession," he said. "It was an eventful race and we made very good choices which put us in contention for the result today.

"When it started raining again, I suffered quite badly from tyre degradation on the intermediates and Jenson was able to get past. We didn't seem to quite have the pace on inters but third place is great and we've made a step in the right direction this weekend.

"There's more to come from the team so it's really good to be heading into the European season with some strong results and second place in the drivers' championship."

Once again Rosberg outshone team-mate and seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher after the 41-year-old could only finish just inside the points in 10th place.

It continues an indifferent return to racing and though he had talked of challenging for an eighth title this season in the build up to the race, he is 10th in the drivers' standings and trails leader Button by 50 points.

"Today was one of those races that you do not want to remember, just like the whole weekend really," said Schumacher.

"It was not good for me and not good from me. You have to take it as another experience and accept it even if it is frustrating that I was not able to get my tyres together better.

"Congratulations to Nico, who made it to the podium and at least one of us scored good points."
