A Romanian beggar was conditionally discharged for a year after he admitted to harassing people in Sliema.

Magistrate Josette Demicoli heard 56-year-old Petrica Balteanu admit to living a vagabond life and harassing people for money on and before February 15.

Police Inspector Jason Sultana, prosecuting, told the court that over the past weeks several people had been charged with begging. He said there seemed to be a circle of people coming to Malta and "when police managed to remove two, another two arrived."

Lawyer Simon Micallef Stafrace represented the accused.
