A week from today, the Valletta Waterfront will be the venue for a 12-hour marathon involving rock bands and martial arts students.

This will be the third edition of this event, which is aimed at raising funds for the Puttinu Cares Foundation, which assists children with cancer.

The marathon will take place at the Magazino and the old power station, and kicks off at 11 a.m. The music performances and martial arts displays will run concurrently, with the two arts vying for the public’s attention and generosity in a friendly but competitive spirit to outdo each other in the sums raised from an entrance donation of €5 a head.

The Puttinu Cares Foundation assists children needing treatment abroad and their carers by covering flight and accommodation expenses. With this assistance, financial burdens are lifted off families who already have enough problems to handle, enabling them to focus on giving their full support to their children.

The list of confirmed martial arts clubs participating in the marathon includes Kin Su Dojo Judo, Samurai Jitsu Kobudo Association, Mithras Traditional Sword Fighting, Maltese Kendo Federation, Malta Aiki-Jutsu Takeda Ryu Association, Aikido Self-Defence, Bujinkan Ninjutsu, Sonkei Malta Yoshinkan Aikido, American Kenpo Karate, Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu, Kukishinden Ryu Kenjutsu, Tai Chi Club Malta, Wu Shu Ky Kick Boxing, Ying Yang Kick Boxing and Malta Spirit Combat.

The rock bands performing during the event are Sepia, The OverOuts, 26 Other Worlds, The Myth, Pupi tal-Logħob, Vandals, 12th Ode, Explicit, Dawn of Anguish, Forsaken, Purple Haze, BNI and Fire.

Further to the live music and martial arts displays, the marathon will also feature a display of cars from various local clubs and a demonstration of radio-controlled helicopters.
