Jaguar's X-Type has been revamped, and comes with a host of new features, including a new automatic transmission in the acclaimed 2.2-litre diesel.

With significant revisions, including nearly 500 new components, the new generation X-Type retains all the original strengths, and adds some new ones of its own.

"The revamped X-Type stands for accessibility, versatility, luxury and choice within the Jaguar range", David Gasan, managing director of Gasan Enterprises Ltd, Jaguar's local agents, said. "The new features - particularly the automatic transmission in the 2.2 diesel - enable us to reach new customers and retain existing owners."

The new X-Type's exterior styling is significantly updated. Subtle interior revisions and greater choice of trim and equipment, further emphasise the X-Type's premium car credentials.

For the first time in this model range, the new X-Type now offers the combination of diesel power with automatic transmission - pairing the 2.2 litre diesel with a six-speed automatic, and the one-touch control of Jaguar Sequential Shift - broadening the new model's appeal to buyers who previously could not have this combination in an X-Type.

The new X-Type automatic diesel combines high levels of refinement with optimised performance and economy, and promises more choice and even greater luxury, to appeal especially to a younger, more family-orientated audience.

In addition to the 2.2 Turbo Diesel, the X-Type is also available with a 2.0-litre Turbo Diesel engine as well.

The 2.2D manual version has headline figures of 0-100 km/h in 8.7 seconds, a maximum speed of 216 km/h (134 mph), a combined economy of 6.0 litres/100 km (47.1 mpg), and a CO2 rating of 159 g/km. The respective figures for the 2.2D automatic are 9.5 seconds, 208 km/h (129 mph), 6.9 l/100 km (41 mpg) and 184 g/km. The comparative figures are similar for stationwagon versions.

The X-Type 2.2 Diesel automatic combines a powerful, advanced diesel engine with a proven luxury vehicle - the result is an exceptional blend of performance and refinement.

Other changes in the new X-Type include a roof-mounted antenna pod; revised parking aid systems; new mesh grille featuring the Jaguar 'growler' badge; new front and rear bumper design, new sill mouldings and re-profiled side mouldings.

New badging including front wing Jaguar 'ingot' badges features as well as rear chrome signature blade on saloon models, new door mirrors with integrated turn indicator repeaters, two new alloy wheel designs, new exterior paint choices, and speedometer and rev-counter redesigns, Tungsten metallic finish for air vents, steering wheel spokes, and centre console, chrome finish for air-vent thumb wheels and steering wheel controls, new seat designs, with horizontal and diamond twin-needle stitch patterns, Rosewood veneer option, new interior colour palette, with additional trim options including Soft Grain leather, and door trim designs, to complement seat-trim and colour combinations.

The entry level 2.0-litre diesel with 130 bhp and five-speed manual transmission costs €47,500 and is highly specified with 16-inch alloy wheels, locking wheel nuts, perimeter alarm, six-way electric seat adjustment, six air-bags, leather seats, four-spoke leather steering wheel. The car also features power folding door mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and bronze stained sapele veneer facia.
