Global Capital, in collaboration with the National Blood Transfusion Services, recently organised a Red Day activity among its employees. This served to contribute towards increasing awareness on the importance of blood donation.

More than 30 Global Capital staff members volunteered to donate blood at the Mobile Blood Donation Unit, which was purposely stationed for the morning outside GlobalCapital’s operations centre in Balzan.

“Every drop of blood counts. A person in need of blood, particularly following a serious accident, may need at least 40 to 50 units of blood. This would require a minimum of 40 to 50 separate donors,” said Global Capital CEO Nicholas Portelli.

“We are extremely grateful to invited by companies like Global Capital. The availability of the mobile unit encourages employees to donate as they find it more convenient to donate blood. By means of our mobile unit we are able to collect 20 per cent of the blood needed.

“Without these people, we face acute shortages of blood,” said Blood Donation Department deputy nursing officer Carmen Gauci.
