The Franciscan Sisters of the Heart of Jesus recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary in London.
Since 1960, they have been providing accommodation for Maltese patients sponsored who visit London to receive specialised medical treatment.
At ‘Mary Immaculate’ House in Victoria, the Franciscan Nuns attempt to offer an environment the patients and their families feel cared for and at home during their difficult time away from home.
Apart from looking after patients, ferrying them to various hospitals and visiting them in wards, the Franciscan Sisters also offer accomodation to any doctors and nurses who accompany patients, private patients, students and others.
Malta’s High Commissioner in London, Joseph Zammit Tabona, participated in thanksgiving Mass, together with the Mother Provincial Sr Josephine Xuereb, other Maltese members of the clergy, members of Maltese associations in the UK, as well as a number of patients who are currently receiving treatment in London.
After Mass, the celebrant Rev. Can. Pat Browne read out a message received from the Vatican, in the form of a Papal Blessing from Pope Benedict XVI.
