The Malta Canoe Federation is holding a series of canoe, kayak and dinghy races on Sunday at Manoel Island. All races start and finish at The Strand, Sliema.

This year, the programme includes the traditional 10km race held along a circuit covering three laps of Manoel Island.

The race, open for dinghies, has gained in popularity these past few years thanks mainly to the participation of the Armed Forces of Malta who are taking part once again.

The Manoel Island races, this year sponsored by Ta' Deo Stationery, of San Pawl Tat-Targa, and ProHealth Ltd, are now organised on a yearly basis - a truly canoeing festival.

The federation urges all owners of kayaks, canoes or other non-motorised small vessels to attempt one lap of Manoel Island during the fun race, a distance of just over 3km, easily completed by most beginners.

More details may be obtained from the federation's website www.mcu.org.mt.
