Qormi’s preparations for the new season have been thrown into disarray fol-lowing the unexpected resignation of president Redino Apap.
The Premier League club said in a statement that Apap, who has been at the helm of Qormi for several years, stepped down from his post due to the lack of enthusiasm and support from the fans.
Apap has been at the forefront of efforts to improve the club’s financial situation while retaining a competitive team in the BOV Premier League but his decision to give up the presidency is indicative of his growing frustration at the status quo at Qormi.
The statement said that Apap will remain as member of the club committee, meaning that he also intends to keep his seat on the Malta FA Executive Committee for season 2015/16.
The Yellow-Blacks are currently trying to assemble a competitive squad for the new Premier League season which starts on August 21. They will be under the guidance of coach Jesmond Zerafa who rejoined the club this summer.
Last season, Qormi went through two coaches with Mark Miller succeeding Josef Mansueto in February.
