Fiat has launched its third generation Punto, as the company reports that Punto sales have passed six million.

The new model is renewed, re-engineered and restyled so completely that it has been renamed Grande Punto.

UCIM Co Ltd, local importers for Fiat, will launch the new version of the best seller in style at Badger Karting tomorrow and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., where it can be viewed and test driven.

There will also be entertainment, discounts on karting and the chance to win official Fiat merchandise.

The Grande Punto starts at Lm5,850 and includes extras such as air conditioning, ABS & EBD, power steering, front airbags, electric windows, electric heated mirrors and on-board computer. It is available as both three and five door and is longer, higher, wider, more spacious and more luxurious than any of its predecessors.

The car also comes with a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP for passenger protection, three-star certification for child protection and three-star certification for pedestrian protection.

The engines currently available are 1.2 8v developing 65 bhp and 1.3 16v multijet turbo-diesel developing 75 bhp. These are lively, responsive and economical engines, the company said.

Further details are available from the Fiat showroom in Psaila Street, Birkirkara.
