Division Two

San Gwann 2
St Andrews 1

A Mark Psaila goal, two minutes from time, earned San Gwann their fourth victory from five matches to stay top of the standings as St Andrews slipped to their second defeat in the league.

After a balanced first half, San Gwann started to dominate after the break and took the lead on 53 minutes when Dorian Colombo headed the ball home from an Alan Spiteri corner.

Spiteri's shot then hit the crossbar for San Gwann but St Andrews drew level on 67 minutes when John Stivala scored from a rebound after Claude Scerri's shot was partially blocked by Daniel Zammit.

With the game heading for a draw, San Gwann netted the winner in the 88th minute when Psaila finished off a swift counter-attack.

Tarxien Rainbows 1
Zurrieq 0

Simon Shead's 13th goal of the season proved enough for Tarxien who maintained the pace with the other front-runners San Gwann at the top of the table.

Zurrieq, however, dictated matters for most of the first half but found it tough to break a very organised Rainbows' defence.

After the break, Tarxien came more into the picture and scored the goal that mattered on the hour mark when Shead placed the ball behind Jeffrey Farrugia in the Zurrieq goal.

Philip Farrugia and Jason Saliba were close for Zurrieq with Tarxien's Ludvic Bartolo almost scoring his side's second goal late in the match but his header was ably saved by Farrugia.

Referee: Clayton Pisani.

Zebbug Rangers 0
Attard 0

This was a fair result with Attard gaining a point that kept them in the runners-up spot behind joint leaders San Gwann and Tarxien. The match was dominated by both sets of defences who completely annulled the respective forward lines.

The two sides had good chances to score. Attard hit the woodwork on 14 minutes when a Gareth Magri effort was stopped by the post while Zebbug suffered the same fate on 69 minutes when a Gordon Mallia volley smacked against the bar.

Chris Gauci could have stole it for Attard in the 90th minute but missed a sitter from a Magri free-kick.

Referee: Ian Miller.

Luqa 0
Vittoriosa Stars 0

This was another goalless stalemate at the Centenary Stadium which saw Luqa playing a fine match to earn their first point of the season.

They were the better team in the opening stages but a James Galea goal was disallowed for offside and an Oliver Cutajar drive was saved by Stars' goalkeeper Cini.

Vittoriosa improved on the changeover as Luqa keeper Azzo-pardi had to effect three excellent saves to protect his fort.

Six minutes from time, Vittoriosa striker Charles Cachia was sent off for a nasty foul on an opponent.

Referee: Adrian Azzopardi.

Division Three

Sta Lucija 0
Siggiewi 2

Siggiewi handed Sta Lucija their first defeat of the season courtesy of second-half goals from Mark Vella and Marlon Vella.

Sta Lucija opened better with Melvin Agius and Ramon Bromridge creating the best chances.

But after the break Siggiewi came more into the picture and took the lead with a Mark Vella low shot. The Saints were unlucky when they had a Carl Caruana shot stopped by the woodwork on 66 minutes. Ten minutes later Marlon Vella sealed Siggiewi's win after hitting home from a Roderick Farrugia cross.

Referee: Saviour Tanti.

St George's 1
Zejtun Corinthians 0

St George's maintained their perfect record with a third victory after a narrow 1-0 win over Zejtun.

The all-important goal for the Cottonera side was scored by Edgar Degabriele who buried the ball home from a Christian Grech cross.

Zejtun's reply after the break failed to arrive and even though St George's had goalkeeper Andrea Gatt sent off four minutes from time, for handling the ball outside his box, they were still strong enough to hold on to their slender lead.

Referee: Ian Miller.

Ghaxaq 2
Pembroke 1

Two goals by Ray Sciberras, one from the penalty, handed Ghaxaq their second consecutive victory as Pembroke's bad run continued with their fourth defeat from as many matches.

It was Pembroke who took the lead on 11 minutes courtesy of Wilfred Brincat's low drive. Ghaxaq equalised on 21 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for a handball by Anthony Farrugia. Sciberras duly converted from the spot. Four minutes later, the former Valletta player gave Ghaxaq the lead after finishing off a fine move by Colin Ferriggi.

Pembroke could have equalised a minute from the break when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Nicholas Aquilina but Brincat's shot from the spot was saved by David Mizzi.

Referee: Khaled Al Arby.

Birzebbuga 6
Ta' Xbiex 2

Birzebbuga moved three points clear at the top of the table after trouncing Ta' Xbiex 6-2. They are now three points clear of Melita and St George's.

Paul Camilleri hit a hat-trick with the other goals coming from Noel Tabone (2) and Clive Formosa.

Benoit Buhagiar and Karl Azzopardi were the scorers for Ta' Xbiex who were completely overran in the second half after going in for the break with the score reading 2-2.

Referee: Ingmar Spiteri.
