A man who admitted damaging several offices and a Transport Malta car was today placed under probation by a court, which also issued a treatment order so that he can be given psychiatric help.

The court heard how the accused, a 53-year-old from Sliema,  had called at  the Transport Malta offices in Floriana threatening to blow up the place. He also scratched the windscreen of a TM car and slashed three of its tyres.

He then went to the offices of the Housing Authority where he threatened to slash the chief executive's neck and then deflated his car's tyres.

He slightly injured a number of policemen as he was being arrested.

Police Inspector Daniel Zammit told the court that the accused had also caused more than €1,100 in damage at the Group Four Security Company at the San Gwann Industrial estate where he scratched glass panels with a penknife and destroyed the intercom.

He also damaged the main door of the Swieqi PN club as he felt ignored by the party, stole a wet floor sign worth €40, from outside the Coastline hotel and scratched the door of the St Paul's Bay tribunal office after being given a traffic fine.

Inspector Zammit said the man insisted with the police that he did not need psychiatric help.

The accused regretted what he had done and said he was prepared to pay for the damages.

The court placed him on probation for three years and issued a treatment order for the same period so the man could be given psychiatric help.
