Perhaps I am prejudiced but the best bit of news over the weekend was that George Abela has been nominated to become Malta's next President of the Republic and hopefully it will be a unanimous decision in Parliament when it comes to the vote.
Here we have a man who, in the opinion of the majority of members of the Labour Party, and especially Jason Micallef, was not good enough to lead them into the next election. All I can say is that Labour's loss is Malta's gain and the choice has turned out to be a blessing for our nation. And what a great choice it is to unite the country.
Obviously Lawrence Gonzi must be a first class chess player and had he been playing against Mr Micallef he would no doubt have ended the game with a good old "Check mate, Jason" and wiped that perpetual grin off the latter's face.
A great choice indeed, Mr Prime Minister.
