President Eddie Fenech Adami yesterday received a courtesy call from ex-King Simeon of Bulgaria at The Palace, Valletta. Simeon Borisov Sakskoburggotski heads the National Movement Simeon II, a liberal party which is part of the coalition government in Bulgaria. At the last general election his party received 21.83 per cent of the vote. Between 2001 and 2005 he served as the country's Prime Minister. He was proclaimed King in 1943 at the age of six on the death of his father. Three years later Bulgaria was taken over by the Communists who abolished the monarchy. Simeon II lived in exile, eventually settling in Spain. He returned to Bulgaria in 2001 to set up a new political party.
