Much has been written and said recently about the dirty state of St Paul's Bay and the surrounding areas.

The mayor of St Paul's Bay confirmed (September 20) that green wardens are patrolling the area to book all those who litter. I fully agree with this but would like to suggest that this exercise is done at the beginning of summer when the hordes of holidaymakers converge on the area. In this way the holidaymakers are sensibilised to treat their holiday area as they treat their home town or village.

Notices with information about waste collection, littering and collection of dog excrement by the owners should be placed in strategic places like shops, street noticeboards on corners, etc.

Now that most of the summer holidaymakers have returned to their winter homes, St Paul's Bay and the area are already much cleaner!

I also agree with Susan Pitt (September 20) that the mayor should be given a chance. After all you can't honestly pass a verdict on her performance when she hasn't even been in office a year.
