The police found 145 kilos of drugs during the first five months of this year.

Giving a breakdown of the drugs seized, Justice Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici told Parliament, the catch included over 130 kilos of Khat between January and March.

Answering a question by Anthony Agius Decelis (PL), the minister said the drugs were found in 31 locations in Malta and one in Gozo. The finds led to 48 persons being investigated and arrested on charges of drug trafficking. The majority, 17 cases, were investigated in March.

The total weight (in grams) of the drugs found by the police were 2037.16 cocaine, 1042.25 of heroin, 15.69 of cannabis grass, 9715.92 of cannabis resin and 54 of cannabis seeds. There were also 18,378.5 tablets of ecstasy and 16,400 tablets of ecstasy look-a-likes. The police also found 1.75 litres of methadone, 0.9 grams of amphetamine and nine tablets of D.H.C.
