My fear is that the increase in the honorarium to our members of Parliament may lead to an electoral defeat for the Nationalist Party in the coming general election. People I meet in the street, in particular Nationalist supporters, seem to be, to say the least, a little bit angry. What a pity this will be for a government that is doing so well against all odds.

For the best of my party and my country I only wish that I am mistaken. After all I count it a blessing that today I have the luxury to discuss a money increase instead of, let’s say, the burning of a printing press or the perverse result in a general election.

But let’s look forward. May I humbly suggest more dialogue and much more care when taking certain decisions which may be controversial and hurt people. My family needs some euros as well. This will again make the thousands of supporters feel proud that they form part of the Nationalist Party, a party with a glorious history with a couple of chapters written with blood and sweat.
