The Nationalist Party has reacted to comments made yesterday by Henley and Partners, saying the company was showing it was only interested in making money from Malta’s citizenship scheme.

The party said the company stood to make €200m from the scheme.

Referring to the comments by company spokesman Chris Kalin about Malta’s citizenship scheme and the PN's position, the party said such comments showed how Henley and Partners had become a political and commercial instrument in the prime minister’s hands. The eagerness with which the company defended whatever the government did showed how it was interested only in making money, regardless of the harm which the citizenship scheme would cause Malta.

The PN said Henley had over the past year established a network in Malta, including Henley Estates, which showed how the company was also intent on making money from Malta’s property sector, enjoying an unfair advantage over other estate agents.

The PN insisted that applicants for Maltese citizenship should live here, invest to create jobs, and own property.

It said it would not be dissuaded by the threats made by Dr Muscat or the political comments by Henley.
