The Opposition leader’s position on spring hunting is still unknown, the Labour Party pointed out in a statement this afternoon.

It said that as he had done in the case of civil unions, the Opposition leader was trying to get away from speaking about the referendum as it had done in the case of civil unions.

The people were seeing a difference between an Opposition leader who decided not to take decisions and a Prime Minister who was not shying away from his responsibility.

Dr Busuttil’s silence was synonymous the a party that had not changed, the PL said.

But in a statement later, the Nationalist Party said that just three days after the Prime Minister solemnly declared he would not politicise the hunting referendum, the Labour Party today attacked the Opposition leader about the referendum.

The PN said Dr Busuttil had made it clear in a statement and during a news conference that the party would be discussing the matter within its structures as from today and would be making its position public once the discussion was concluded and a decision was taken. This was what one expected from a truly democratic party.

But the Labour Party was such a hypocrite that it criticised others who had not yet expressed their opinion when it was not taking a position itself.

Moreover, it attacked the PN when it would not be discussing the matter but had left it up to its leader to decide on his own and dictate, as if this was a communist party.

While he said one thing, it was already clear that Dr Muscat had decided to turn the hunting referendum into another exercise of partisan politics.

It only took him three days to breach his promise, it siad.
