The Prime Minister's medical condition has continued to improve after the temporary blindness caused early yesterday.

"At least I can see now," Dr Muscat told Times of Malta as he recovers at home.

Dr Muscat was among some 50 people who were hospitalised for some hours early  yesterday suffering acute pain in both eyes.

All had been present for a Labour Party activity addressed by Dr Muscat in Zurrieq on Sunday morning. The other affected persons had sat behind Dr Muscat during his speech in a tent in Zurrieq square.

The government said the prime minister appeared to have been worst affected, because the lights were on him. He suffered temporary blindness for close to 24 hours but vision started returning late yesterday.

The police are conducting an investigation, with the cause suspected to be excessive exposure to UV rays caused by light reflectors.

Dr Muscat has been advised to rest for some days.
