The fifth issue of Places – Design & Living, out with The Sunday Times of Malta tomorrow, focuses on the great outdoors, with a selection of gardens and how to style them for al fresco life, dining and entertainment.

With more and more gardens giving way to development, the environment-friendly slant continues in a feature on the rules and regulations an architect had to strictly adhere to in order to extend a cafeteria in one of London’s Royal Parks. The protection of trees had to be followed to a T and it’s a lesson in eco-friendly projects.

Tomorrow’s issues of Places also showcases a tasteful townhouse in the heart of Sliema – an example of a refreshing renovation and of how old, original buildings can survive the onslaught of characterless new apartments and stand tall despite being flanked by towering blocks or teetering by gaping holes.

Kitchens, the heart of the home, also find their place in the July edition, with design, layout – and cooking – tips from a seasoned chef and a guide on countertops that more than scratches the surface.

Places is a bimonthly magazine, produced and published by Allied Newspapers Ltd and printed by Progress Press.
