Twenty-year-old Libyan man Khaled Mahmoud Abdulkasem has been held in remand after he was charged with holding Tunisian Skander Sahraoi against his will and at knife point and stealing his wallet on Saturday.

The incident happened at about 10.15pm at City Gate in Valletta.

Police Inspector Joseph Mercieca said that the victim told the police that he was walking along City Gate when the accused took his wallet from his back pocket When he turned around, the accused pointed a knife at him.

The victim said he knew the man by sight as they frequented the same bar.

The prosecution objected to the accused being granted bail, saying that he was not to be trusted, he had drug and gambling problems and did not have a fixed address.

The accused was remanded in police custody.

Police Inspectors Mercieca and James Grech prosecuted while legal aid lawyer Joseph Ellis represented the accused.
