A scheme encouraging investment in photovoltaic panels has been stopped prematurely by the Malta Resources Authority because of inconsistencies in several applications.

The MRA said in a statement the inconsistencies included different prices for the same systems and the scheme was stopped in the interest of consumers.

The authority said that a new scheme offering the same level of assistance would be issued in the last week of June. Applications would be received for two weeks and residents would be able to apply for a grant of up to 50 per cent of their investment, to a maximum of €3,000.

The MRA said that in view of the strong interest currently being shown in such panels, the government was allocating more money for the purpose to satisfy demand.

People who already have a grant offer from the first call would be given the opportunity to reapply and would be given preference when the new applications are opened.
