Two libel suits have been filed against Malta Today and its managing editor Saviour Balzan by communications & PR agency Content House Ltd and its managing director Jesmond Bonello.
In the first case, Content House Ltd and Mr Bonello sued Malta Today on Sunday editor Matthew Vella and Mr Balzan over an article written by Mr Balzan in the April 4 issue entitled ‘Did you say Blackout? Oops...!’.
The second libel suit was against Malta Today on Wednesday editor Raphael Vassallo and Mr Balzan, over the latter’s article, entitled: ‘Did you say no corruption, dear Tonio?’ published on April 21.
The libel suits, signed by Dr Edward Saliba of Deguara Farrugia Advocates, maintain that Mr Vella, Mr Vassallo and Mr Balzan published allegations about Content House Ltd and Mr Bonello which are false, defamatory and which damage their honour, reputation and commercial interests.
Mr Bonello said that both he and Content House shall take all necessary action to safeguard their reputation and interests against allegations that are false, defamatory and commercially damaging:
“This is not the first time that Mr Balzan and the papers he co-owns with Roger de Giorgio have launched an attack against Content House or in my regard.”
He said the agency ignored such attacks in the past but was to start taking action to safeguard its reputation and credibility, as well as protect its commercial interests and integrity.
